Games Design & Animation is about understanding and exploring the depths of Digital Art and how we can create a successful pipeline of asset and environmental creation to create the foundation for video games.

The students primarily used Maya & Photoshop to create models and textures that can be used to build a landscape from the ground up in a digital world. Over lockdown, we explored self-branding, creation of portfolio’s, E-cards and Logo’s to increase exposure to the industry when applying for a job.

Using the skills learnt in the software themselves we created immersive worlds ranging in many genres such as Fantasy, Modern, Western and Sci-fi and each student developed their own prototype for their game idea. This has pushed their technical skills, transferable and interpersonal skills and has created a new movement towards digital art and accompanying processes.

Class Portfolio:

As part of the 'Snapshot' Exhibition in the Parffit Gallery, this video showcases the students very first Animations. The video shows a variety of different styled 3D environments and some early concepts of their Module: B Presentation sheets.

Self Branding:

A project to prepare the students ventures into the employability world. They created self-branding resources, such as business cards, websites and logo’s. These had to be unique to them and express a certain style.

Game Prop Presentation:

Each student created a presentation of a high-quality singular asset showcasing all the skills they have learnt from workshops up until that point. They included different angles and shots of the prop and different visualisation methods to see how it was created. Along with text to describe what they made, how they made it and what inspired them.

Game Prototype:

The students first attempt creating a game prototype using Maya. The prototype had to follow the mechanics and features of a game and be of the genre “Platformer”. Discovering player interactions such as pickup able objects, obstacles, checkpoints, death zones etc. This was a brilliant showcase for how the students can understand mechanics and interpret them for a video game.

Blogs and Websites:

This is the student's final piece of work-in-progress where they have the opportunity to write about their own endeavours and skills learnt throughout the year. Using project titles and pictures they can visually showcase their own work and express themselves using guidelines. A brilliant way to show how far the student has come from start to finish.
